Tara Spil is a painter and public artist based in Charlotte, North Carolina, whose work centers on community, place, and shared visual experience. After earning her Bachelor of Fine Art from Western Carolina University, she built a career in the nonprofit sector, shaping a practice rooted in collaboration and public engagement.

Influenced by French Impressionists such as Pissarro and Manet, as well as contemporary painters like Alice Neel, Tara uses bold color and expressive brushwork to explore light, space, and lived moments. Her studio practice in still life and landscape informs her public work, allowing her to translate intimate observations into large-scale, accessible artworks.

As a founder of Charlotte Plein Air, Tara is committed to activating public spaces and fostering opportunities for artists to create and connect within the community. She has shown in a variety of venues including the Levine Museum of the New South, Blumethal Performing Arts Artists in Theaters, McColl Center, Catalyst Gallery, Wilkes Art Gallery, VAPA Center, Cain Center for the Arts, and more. Tara’s work has been supported by the Arts and Science Council, the North Carolina Arts Council, Charlotte SHOUT, Charlotte International Arts Festival and the Blumenthal Endowment.
